Velcom reports 15.4% rise in FY12 revenue
Belarusian cellular operator Mobile Digital Communications (Velcom), part of the Telekom Austria Group (TAG), has reported a 15.4% rise in full-year revenues to EUR301.2 million (USD392.6 million) for 2012, up from EUR260.9 million a year earlier. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) in the fourth quarter of 2012 reached EUR34.8 million, it said, while full-year EBITDA climbed 16.7% year-on-year to EUR124.4 million from EUR106.6 million. Operating income meanwhile, turned to a positive EUR29.5 million, from a loss of EUR255.2 million in FY11 – due to the effects of hyperinflation, the parent company said. Velcom closed out December 2012 with a total of 4.80 million mobile users, up 3.9% from 4.62 million as at 1 January 2012, as it reported a market share of 43.5% (compared to 41.1% previously). Mobile broadband internet subscriptions rose to 803,400 by end-2012, up 13.0% quarter-on-quarter and 77.3% higher than the fourth quarter of 2011.
